have just returned from a military exercise (ROMEX ’05) in Romania. There I met the President of Romania, a 2-star and 1-star General, shared living quarters with Romanian soldiers, participated in live fire exercises, MOUT training, convoys, and sadly, we lost one of own. I had a few regrets leaving Romania. One was leaving the gained new friends (Romanian Soldiers) whom I would call my brothers and would give my life for. The other is that I knew I was going to return to the United States where people are so spoiled they argue over who has the TV remote control. The main mode of transportation in the rural towns of Romania was a donkey towing a wagon. If they could afford it, they could upgrade to a horse and wagon. Kind of like a Pinto to a BMW. One old man riding in his wagon pulled by his donkey stopped and greeted me. I noticed his donkey had open cuts and sores on his backside. I opened my medical bag, got some Bacitracin and applied it to the wounds. I gave the remaining ointment to the old man. I felt as though I had been adopted by the way he treated and thanked me for tending to his donkey. Here’s the neatest part of it all, whatever little did these people own they cherished it and complained none. Had it not been for President Bushes’ war on terror and the alliance with Romania, I may have never had the opportunity for people of a different world to make a positive impression in my life. I will always be a supporter to President Bush and will always be ready to travel wherever I am needed. God Speed Mr. President, Mark A. Estridge SGT/TXANG

As a sustaining member of the Republican National Committee I must say that the guest book has some interesting articles. Why some people insist on berating our fine president for the outstanding job he's doing is a source of irritation to myself and all True Americans. I really must say, "America......Love it or leave it". I have President and Laura Bush's picture proudly displayed on my living room wall along with pictures of my family. Most of us are or have been veteran's and are extremely proud of our President Bush and the present cabinet. Again I say, "America...Love it or LEAVE it. Michael L. MY NAME IS DURWOOD E. BARNARD. I AM THE OLDEST SON OF THOMAS RENFRO BARNARD WHO WAS BORN IN 1917 IN CRAWFORD,AND WAS RAISED THERE. HE WAS THE SON OF THOMAS PORTER AND JOHNNIE RENFRO BARNARD WHO WERE LIFELONG RESIDENTS. MY COUSIN, TROY BROWN, FROM HOUSTON, AND I SPENT MANY A FUN SUMMER IN CRAWFORD IN THE LATE FORTIES AND EARLY FIFTIES. WE SWAM AT THE FALLS, FISHED THE BOSQUE AND HUNTED UP AND DOWN WHAT WE CALLED THE TWO FIFTY B CREEK BED. THE ANDERSONS LIVED NEXT TO MY GRAND PARENTS AND THE SHROEDERS UP THE STREET. MOST OF THE OLD TIMERS ARE GONE NOW BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. WHAT GLORIOUS DAYS THOSE WERE. I CAN TRULY UNDERSTAND WHY PRESIDENT BUSH AND LAURA PROUDLY CALL IT HOME. IT HASN'T BEEN THAT LONG AGO I COULD MENTION THAT MY FOLKS WERE FROM CRAWFORD TX. AND THEY WOULD SAY. WHERE ? I ONLY WISH MY DAD, HIS BROTHER (JACK) AND TWO SISTERS (DOROTHY AND MARTHA) COULD HAVE LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THE PRESS THAT THE OLD TOWN, THAT THEY LOVED AND BRAGGED ABOUT, WAS GETTING NOW. THEY HAD MANY HILARIOUS STORIES ABOUT THE PEOPLE AND THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THAT LITTLE COTTON TOWN JUST OUTSIDE OF WACO. WITH WARM FEELINGS. DURWOOD BARNARD GRAND PRAIRIE, TX.

I am very proud of the USA and I support President Bush 100%. I strongly believe that his leadership has made our country safer and the next four years are going to be even better. I don't know if President Bush will get a chance to read this short letter; if you do, Mr. President I want to thank you for all your hard work, leadership, patriotism, and the one thing we have in common besides being Republicans, The Love For The USA. Crawford, Texas, Howdy! As lovely a town as we have ever seen. This is why W got re-elected, Americans are in need of small town America and all that it represents. As parents and grandparents we are always trying to get the children back to the basics of life in these United States, President Bush has helped this along, We are one grateful family that our leader has not and will not back down. This attribute is one we we admire the most. Thanks to all of you for sending us someone to stand tall! C&A Palleschi Massachusetts

Dear Crawford: My husband and I would like to thank you for presenting this site. I had no idea it existed and I was so happy and pleasantly surprised to hear about it. I saw the mugs on Fox & Friends today (11/5/04). I went to the store first and was very interested. But the real pleasure came from the photos on the site. I called my husband and told him to go the site. Since we have always loved the Bushes (all of them) and we have been profoundly proud of them (W especially) and him to be so warm and real, your website gives us the opportunity to actually feel as if we live there and are friends, just up the road. My husband is a professor and I am an administrative assistant on a very liberal and democratic campus. These academics would never be able to understand the real people who make up the real America. I try to explain, but it is too hard for them. We go to Galveston all the time, but we take the route down 59, 259 then 269. We will start a new path, now. We like to travel on those less traveled roads. They are more fun, and only take an hour longer. Hope to meet some of you when we come to visit Crawford -- if you don't mind us rubber necks. By the way, we are from Fayetteville, Arkansas. I am a Texan. My husband is an Okie (I forgive him), and we love Bush and we appreciate your love for him. Thank you. Jerry and Suz Wall.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: 11/03/04 My name is Kimberly Marie Welch and I am a 28 year old mother of 3 small children, and the proud wife of a Marine Sgt. serving his second tour in Iraq. I wanted to let the President, his family, and his community of Crawford know how proud we are to be serving under his command, the last four years and now the next four. I knew it would be next to impossible to do that, by trying to contact him via e-mail or letter, so I decided to give this a try. I have been wanting to go into the military myself and serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, but put it on hold due to the fact that if there was a possibility that John Kerry may win, I didn't want to serve under his command. Now I know that my decision to join is the right one, and I use Mr. Bush's re-election as a positive sign to do so! We are proud to serve America, and proud to serve under our Commander-In-Chief! Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to say this, and again congratulations on the re-election of President Bush. Sincerely, Kimberly M. Welch

It sounds like you all don't want war with Iraq, but the fact is they threw the first punch for no flippin reason. If we don't defend ourselves then we are just going to get beat up worse next time! If you're alright with more 9-11's then keep yellin at Bush. Before you start tellin Bush what to do, think real hard, ask yourself if you would do a better job at being the "Commander in Chief" of a major country with millions of people who want so much and so many different things, and if you still think so, then go run for President. As far as I see it Bush is doin a fine job. Think about it!
God Bless! Mrs. G.S.F.

I am a Canadian and I find it amusing that you people are bashing the good people of Crawford for not supporting free speech and yet the good people of Crawford allow you to leave your negative comments on this message board. Many people are wondering...When did Texas become its' own country? Let alone Crawford and its' new polocies concerning "their" audience. Can a single black/yellow/white(oh, sorry-forgot about that one)/brown/tiedye/ overall American mutt/male/female/muslim/budhist/satanist/athiest/ etc., etc., etc. still visit this website and get real views and opinions of how this city stands on political issues? With Dubya being the overwhelming majority reason to visit, this place seems obligated to share. We'd love to read the mayor's views on many topics-other than freedom of speech-late night t.v. isn't as funny anymore. UH-BUH-BYE!!!!

I come from a small town like Crawford and I think it would be interesting to go there. It's appauling to think that you Texans' believe you have to keep a "eye" on a house of peace. Do you also NOT allow any churches or houses or worship in your town as well? Those are houses of peace and love also. I don't think what you are pushing there in Texas is very American. When did you people turn American values into Nazi values? Where did freedom of speech fall by the wayside? This is an American's constitutional right. Seems like Texan rights are very different from the rights of the rest of the country. It's shameful that your mayor is so hateful and disrespectful of the constitutional rights of Americans. Looks like he thinks it's alright to speak his mind without persecution. It's a two way street, if he's got to keep his eye on the Peace House, then he won't mind if the rest of the world keeps an eye on his house of anti peace. The majority of the world is very interested in peace. If your mayor is not interested in American values, maybe he should check out living in other countries that do not allow people to speak their minds. Maybe like Iraq. Is that why he is so gung ho about getting in there?
I don't know how welcome tourists are going to feel coming to Crawford with one of your most influential people in office there, making public statements about his distain for people who feel they can speak freely.
I'll pray for the people of Crawford who agree with your mayor. I hope one day you will take pride in knowing that this country you live in does provide freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice and if you can't find it there at home, there are plenty of other places in THIS country that you will be able to find it. That those places will welcome you with open arms and open minds. Peace and love begin at home, each one of us are responsible as embassidors to spread that to those of us around us.
There are problems we have now, great ones. But stopping American's freedom of speech is not one of the things people need to fear.

...concerning the "Peace House:" - - - - Crawford Mayor Robert Campbell told the Dallas Morning News the town will keep a close eye on the peace house. ... "We're not going to let them turn the town into a three-ring circus," Campbell told the paper. "If they want to protest, let them go to Washington." - - - - Dear Mayor Campbell, As the highest local executive authority, your statements, showing a profound ignorance of and/or disregard for the First Amendment's freedom of assembly and speech. If people want to protest, they can do it at the property neighboring "President" George W. Bush's ranch, in Washington, from their home computers, or wherever they wish in the public sector. Your idiotic statement is an embarrassment to your community.
Though you appear to be unable to comprehend such a sentiment, democracy EQUALS dissent, and if anything you should be encouraging people to pursue their own interests, to voice their opinions. People of intellect and awareness shake their heads and chuckle at you, and thanks to your representation of Crawford, the entire community.
You may plan to keep an eye on the Peace House, but don't think for a moment that organizations with much greater influence and legitimacy than your own feeble mind will be keeping an eye on your activities as well.
Most sincerely, Mason Tromblee Atlanta resident and critical thinker

Hi, my name is Ron Abfalter. I live in East Jordan, Michigan. I don't mean to be insensitive to your mayor. I really think he missed the mark with his recent comments on the peace house. That man in Washington (dubya) has put the country back many years. We really need to look to the rest of the world for peace as we seem in short supply here.

It is so nice to see that the people of Crawford Texas support those good old American values such as 'FREE SPEECH'. (see excerpt from Reuters News Service below)
Crawford Mayor Robert Campbell told the Dallas Morning News the town will keep a close eye on the peace house. Campbell was not immediately available for comment.
"We're not going to let them turn the town into a three-ring circus," Campbell told the paper. "If they want to protest, let them go to Washington."

I read today that your mayor says that if people want to protest they should go to Washington (instead of Crawford). I find that curious. One would think the first amendment would be alive and well in the home of the President of the United States. The mayor is certainly entitled to his opinion, but the way he expresses this implies that he's going to be a bit of a bully about dealing with anyone that protests. I encourage you to consider electing a new mayor that shows a bit of tolerable maturity, or send him out for sensitivity training. You obviously want to commercialize off the President, so you might not get to pick and choose the kind of attention you get in the end. Let's hope everyone in your community stays peaceful. That's what I'm praying for. Just because we have an enemy (Saddam) doesn't mean that we need to trash the rights and responsibilities of our own citizens. Good luck.

Saw this article. Sounds like a great idea. I hope it attracts a lot of positive attention. DALLAS, Texas (Reuters) -- President Bush has a new neighbor in Crawford, Texas -- a peace activist who plans to use his house near the president's ranch as a springboard to speak out on issues such as a war with Iraq. John Wolf, a peace activist from the Dallas area, recently completed paperwork to buy a home in Crawford, a town of less than 1,000 people. He plans to use the facility as an interfaith peace house that can serve as a base to launch peace protests near the ranch Bush calls the Western White House. "I wish the peace house was already up and running," Wolf said. The house, near city hall, is one of the first structures T that visitors to Crawford see after passing along a sign on the highway that welcomes people to town and reminds them it is the "Home of President George W. Bush". Crawford Mayor Robert Campbell told the Dallas Morning News the town will keep a close eye on the peace house. Campbell was not immediately available for comment. "We're not going to let them turn the town into a three-ring circus," Campbell told the paper. "If they want to protest, let them go to Washington." Wolf said people of many different faiths, such as Muslims, Catholics and Quakers, will work out of the house. He plans for the facility to have a peace garden, a media center and facilities for interfaith worship. The house was purchased for $54,000 and is about seven miles away from the front entrance of the Bush ranch. "We are anything but threatening," he said.

Too bad you have that moron president visiting your beautiful city. I think that the new neighbor of GWB should protest as much as possible from his new house. If he want's to protest he shouldn't have to go to Washington as your mayor said. Texas is part of the USA and he should be able to speak his mind there. I don't know what kind of education your mayor has but he needs to take a second grade social studies class that way he can focus on the First Amendment. Cody Yost

I've been to Texas twice--El Paso and drove through the Panhandle. Great state and the people are friendly! Since I see Crawford on CNN sometimes and it looks very scenic, it reminded me of the panhandle a little bit. I had always wanted to know where Crawford was and was certain it was in the panhandle-but I was wrong! I can't believe that you have a small town that close to the capital-That is great!
I live about an hour north of NY city and can remember 30 years ago when my town was just onion farms and we had a population of about 2,000. Now, we have traffic lights, McDonalds, and are about 11,000--so it seems like a metropolis to me. My coworkers in NYC and Westchester county always tell me how rural my area is and I remember way back when it really was! To me, my town has more than quadrupled!
I was glad to find a website with your information on it, but I can't blame you if you keep a good thing there in Crawford to yourself--so you can keep Crawford the way you like! Urban sprawl is a tough thing! Keep those spaces wide open if you can!
Best of wishes!
Sincerely, T. Smith Sugar Loaf/Chester, NY

The hotel is tell in operation and it house's a lot of the elderly. After about 10 year's there, I met my husband and I moved to Lapeer, Michigan. Just North of Pontiac, Michigan.
The first time I heard of Crawford, Texas is when Mr. Bush became President Bush and after the Columbia broke apart over Texas, I began my search on the map in my road atlas book. I think it is a very good town, with smart people generating out of it. One of these days I may have that same dream, if not I will leave it up to my kids or grandkids.
It has been a pleasure to chat awhile! From Michigan, and The Arnold's in Lapeer.

It was a pleasure to visit Crawford last February. It's a nice place to see and can see why Mr. Bush and his family would want to be there. We look forward to passing through again, maybe even this February. Best to all Mr. and Mrs. Mark J. Coleman Harwich Ma.

I enjoy visiting your website and am a huge admirer of the president and first lady. However, it would be nice to see some new things. January is almost over and the last posting was in November. Were there any special activities over the holidays while the first family was there? How about some pictures of the town's holiday decorations? Anyway, your town looks wonderful and I would love to visit sometime. Suzanne Sieloff, Taylor ,Michigan

I'm a huge fan of President George W. Bush. I find his plain-spoken candor a refreshing update to his predecesor, and I expect most folks in Crawford are the same. My name is Michael Cochran, and I'm from Granite City, IL. I live right across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO.
GO GEORGE!

I have relatives in Texas and at one time, when my former husband was in the US Army, we lived on base at Fort Hood as well as Killeen, TX. Texas has always been one of my favorite states. I recieved a letter fgrom President Bush when he was Governor of Texas. Now recieved letter from President Bush as I faxed info to his scheduling office to be heard on how my civil rights were violated by the military as I served in US Army, joined as nurse and was trained by military as a mechanic in an all coed unit. President Bush has informed me is sending my complaint to the appropriate agency. Donna Crowder(m.k)& Jean Nelson (m.k) 750 east 23rd street Merced, Calif 95340

Happy holidays Crawford, Texas! I was just surfing the web today and happened onto this site. It is a very interesting site. I live in Brantleyville, Alabama, just outside of Birmingham, but I was born and raised in Taloga, Oklahoma. My husband has worked in the oilfield all of his life and a few years back we stayed close to Crawford while he was working. I thought it was a very nice area and the people were very friendly. The pictures you have on your website are very nice. The land there is beautiful. May the new year be filled with lots of happiness for all of you. Sincerely, Robin Lowery

I was looking for the brand for President Bush's ranch I was wanting to send him a picture that my wife Johnnie Sue took of the American Flag and the water tower of our hometown Freedom Okla.I make picture frames out of old wood and I thought it would be nice to know his ranch brand so I could burn it on the frame. It's very refreshing to see that the President calls this "non pretentious" town, home! When I see the national media outside his ranch it's like any other place in the midwest... with old hay bales, and farm equipment. Not your typical POLITICAL BACKGROUND, with the perfect steril polish that gives just the right(?)image. This is a wonderful insight as to what comforts one of the most powerful men in the world. Simple pleasures! Thanks Crawford... Don't lose your charm. J.(age.29)-OKC, OK

I was thrilled to find this site last year. Was looking for pictures of my uncle's barber shop and was excited to see it in the first pictures of downtown. Sorry I didn't sign the guest book sooner, but sent to my mom and brothers, and other family and friends. Have seen that my mom wasted no time in signing. Sorry my grandmother (Ozella Sparkman) had to move to a rest home in Waco, but glad she had the opportunity to meet the president prior to becoming too ill. Have wonderful pictures hanging on my wall to add to our family tree.
Love you all and glad for reminders of childhood memories.

Hello! I just spent a few minutes looking at your website and Crawford looks like the ideal all-American town! Sure wish I could visit soon. I am a huge supporter of the President and just adore Mrs. Bush! I live in the ultra liberal metro Detroit (Michigan) area and I enjoy sparring on the issues with my neighbors. Please tell the President to keep up the good work! He's also easy on the eyes!!!

I loved the photos of the area, but haven't visited Texas,Yet! My husband was stationed there in the Air Force many years ago. My Uncle is O'Dell L. Welch of Charleston,SC. This is a way cool site. I live in Killeen. My husband is stationed at Ft. Hood. I hope to visit Crawford soon. I don't think I've actually been in a town that small. My hometown of Mancelona, MI was pretty small and it had 3000 people. I hope to stumble across our awesome president's ranch while there. I just want to see it. I think it's cool that I live so close to him. Yeah I know that sounds corny. GO ELEPHANTS!!!--even cornier.

I forgot to mention in my prior message that I am for 2004 Election of our President. I am also glad that President Bush is acting on our crisis in the Mid East and not just reacting to another aftermath. Thank God the Americans have a positive leader and family for the citizens. debijo@hot1.net

Hi, I found this web page by trying to find the location of my voting prec. to vote. #32! I found the Viking Elementary School so I could vote my fellow Republicans in office. I just love the Bush family and I am so glad that they are bringing the morals back to the United States. They have been such a God-send for our Country. As far as you'all in Crawford; well you seem to be very well organized and sweet people to be home of my President and his family. I do not think that they could of picked a better community in Texas to make their home. I have lived in Waco for about ten years and they seem to lack all the morals and realism they you 'all have. Please do not change and stay proud. Debi Jo Malzer
